How to spend Valentine’s Day weekend

Cupid, petrol station bouquets and giant teddy bears - no thanks! We always think the best way to celebrate the most romantic day of the year is with an intimate meal. Whether that’s something casual, a destination restaurant or an extra indulgent dinner, as long as it includes food then the Captivate team are in.

So, grab the one you love the most and spoil them with our pick of the best places to share your love for good grub this Valentine’s Day weekend.

For food made for sharing and Latin vibes

With three stylish branches across London, Las Banderas are offering lovebirds a choice between a delicious three course menu or simply a night of sensual tapas.

Couples will be welcomed with that warm Spanish hospitality the team are known for and a glass of cava each. Decorated with hanging jamon and vibrant Gaudi colours, there’s plenty for lovers to gaze at apart from each other’s eyes. Before fighting over dishes like tender jamon croquettes or sizzling king prawns pil pil and ending the night with warm churros and chocolate dipping sauce.

Just popping in for a naughty tipple? We’d go for their Valentine’s special ‘The Sour Roses’. With rose syrup and a good glug of vodka, it works much better than a measly flower...

For dinner, quickly followed by a room

Nestled in the Leicestershire countryside, The Queens Head pub offers an idyllic retreat from the usual city routine. With the team’s pride for the best local produce and brews, expect a delicious four course menu starting from smoked ham hock terrine through to pear tarte tatin. For us though, the spotlight is on their succulent steak and beef dripping chips!

Then after you tuck in, stay the night in one of their newly refurbished rooms. Beautifully decorated with bespoke furniture and offering pretty views of the rolling hills.

Wake up the next day to cure your hangover with their lavish home cooked breakfast and you’ve got the perfect Valentine’s getaway.

For best friends rather than baes

When marketing is funnelled so much into one day of the year, it’s very easy to forget that true love comes in many different forms. That’s exactly what The Buttery wants to celebrate with their ‘Galentine’s Bash’.

Always known for their lively atmosphere and tongue in cheek events, the Limerick kitchen invites guests to champion female friendship with a night of bottomless Prosecco and splitting banging plates. We especially love their salt and vinegar chicken wings with a jalapeno dip!

Then after the feasting is done, gals can get down to a soundtrack of ‘90s beats from the city’s best female DJs. No boys allowed…

For a wedding worthy location

Iscoyd Park are no strangers when it comes to romance. An award-winning manor house in the awe-inspiring hills of Wrexham, the team have hosted many bespoke weddings for loved up couples. Every inch a family home, the venue has stunning Georgian features with a modern elegance. And they’ll be opening up their doors for a special Valentine’s supper club.

Coo over a 5-course tasting menu, featuring seasonal produce grown on the Iscoyd estate and ingredients from the best local suppliers. All crafted by the spectacular head chef David Cox.

With beautifully presented plates in a picturesque backdrop, you’ve got a very insta-worthy Valentine’s weekend!
